The valid media and political criticism of Glyphosate approval for 5 more years has proven the correctness of our strategy and vision.
The EcoWellness standard requires an inspection of the end product, including organic products, and preempts the General Revision of the EU Organic Regulation, which is effective beginning in 2021.
Glyphosate, on the one hand a very effective weed killer, on the other hand: pollution of the earth, water, and air, endangering biodiversity. A World Health Organization (WHO) study identified glyphosate as a carcinogen.
Consumers should know if they come into contact with herbicides.
Glyphosate has also been found in food products—and not only in those that come directly from the field. It can also end up in meat via livestock feed, and according to consumer advocate data, large amounts of glyphosate have been discovered in other products such as beer. And that is only the tip of the iceberg: traces of antibiotics, heavy metals, and other toxins have also been detected.
As agriculture expert Markus Fertig, business manager of Controlunion Deutschland (www.pcu-deutschland.de), explained at the contract signing with the Berlin EcoWellness-Group, the Controlunion has conducted a study at its own expense of the residual glyphosate in beer with the following result:
Out of the 14 tested, conventional German beers, the glyphosate content was 5 to almost 300 times greater than the legal limit of drinking water.
But in organic beer: nothing more than water, hops, and malt! There was no residual glyphosate found in German organic beer during this study.
The consumer can be relatively certain that organic products have not been treated with any herbicides. However, there is no absolute certainty, since wind, rain, and ground water can bring weed poison from a neighboring field to the organic farm.
Without a doubt, food that is certified by the IFOAM standard EcoWellness is safe. It is the only organic standard that tests for glyphosate and other toxins and allergens in the end product and that includes health-promoting and social criteria, such as reducing food waste. This “one stop shopping seal of approval”, according to the Consumer Choice Study of the GFK 2017 presented at ANUGA 17, will become an enormous movement with great significance for the organic food market.
The standard will in the future be audited by the worldwide active, prestigious certification society Controlunion. In Austria, with cooperating partners such as the Agentur Ritt GmbH and other professionals. With Controlunion Asia, which is a particularly powerful certifier, and after negotiations in New Delhi and a MoU—also including the Indian government and its Food Transformation Program—a contractual collaboration will follow.
Even more companies from D A CH such as Marschland, Beyeler AG, Obsthof Retter or gastronomies have already improved their product qualification with EcoWellness products, also in the interests of BIO 3.0 and the strategy which was recently adopted by the IFOAM General Assembly in New Delhi.
Furthermore, the EcoWellness-Group motion to more closely interlink ecology and health in the future and to seek scientific corroboration—and thereby win over large market players such as hotel groups and the preventative health market—was approved by the IFOAM General Assembly.
At the BIOFACH 2018 in Nuremberg (www.biofach.de), EcoWellness was promoted at a special exhibition along with businesses, consultants, producers, scientists, and physicians, with lectures and a kitchen spread out over 400 m2, and it was celebrated by many prominent guests.
In Controlunion, we have an international partner with the manpower, know-how, thousands of customers, marketing potential and capital to enhance the synergy of EcoWellness. At the same time we must bulk up our own personnel.
By 30.9.2017 (business year) we have again concluded positively—still with not enough profit, but consistently positive in the past 3 years. The entire loss carryover is spent. The running business year is the first in which we will pay dividends. To that comes the worth of the stock documents as limited graphics with considerable tax benefits.
